Cymraeg Yn Cwl!

Croeso i Ysgol Llandeilo Ferwalt, lle mae siarad Cymraeg yn cwl iawn!

Welcome to Bishopston Primary School, where speaking Welsh is really cool!  

The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) have introduced bilingualism as a key skill in schools. This is fuelled by the document 'Iath Pawb' (a language for everyone), which advocates that the Welsh language belongs to everyone in Wales, and not just first language speakers. 

In Bishopston Primary school, we encourage the use of Welsh by pupils and staff both inside and outside the classrooms. We have a scheme in action within classrooms, where children are chosen to be 'Helpwr y dydd' and ' Helpwr yr wythnos' (Helper of the day/week). Their job invloves chaging interactive Welsh displays §peaking Welsh to their peers and teacher using 'patrwm yr wythnos' ( the Welsh sentence pattern f the week). Once a week, during whole school assembly, children are selected by staff and presented with ' Mae siarad Cymraeg yn cwl' ( speakingWelsh is cool) certificates. These are given to children who make the effort to use Welsh in the corridor, playground, at lunchtime.

' Sach Stori' ( Welsh story sacks) are being create in our school in order to help take the Welsh language into the homes of our children.

This year we will be sharing our school celebration of Saint David's Day with our parents, as we are putting on concerts for them to enjoy.
